DBSK: Ripping off Red Hot Chili Peppers?

Post by tealfirestar07 on Fri Sep 19, 2008 2:02 am

DBSK's newly-leaked song, "Hey (Don't Bring Me Down)" is causing a frenzy for fangirls since it's been awhile since the boys have released anything in Korea. The song starts off good until we hit YooChun's part. His little "give it away" chant sounded very familiar... Then it hit, DBSK has ripped off the punk-rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Give It Away Now."

Listen to YooChun around 1m:23s

Now RHCP's version. Around 0:44s

It's obvious that despite this song being on the most anticipated album of year, SM still prefers to rip off other artists. (I mean, wasn't ZLY & SHINee's first album full of remakes?)

It's only a small part and got it repeated several times doesn't mean they ripped it off. Probably they've bought "that part" from the producer just like their Mirotic's "Under my skin".

I don't take it as a serious problem, TVXQ is very big and so famous now and SM Ent, and other parties that involved in producing their 4th album won't make any unecessary mistakes that will damage the boys and the company.

We don't know the truth right now, so I'll just stay quiet till the truth's out. there's no point of having so man speculation over small thing.

Whoa, it does sound the same.
OMG I love Red Hot Chili Peppers & if they did rip them off then I'm disappointed not in DBSK because they are just the singers but in the production team that helped produce this album more the team that help produce that track because that's a total rip off. Unless of course they bought the rights.
Seriously though what is up with SM?
This is the second case of DBSK songs from their new album being talked about with copyright issues.
First Mirotic being the same as Under My Skin sung by Sarah Connor, though both versions are good I just prefer the English more since I can understand it XD & now this one.
But the thing doesn't stop with DBSK, like you mention ZLY's album had remakes & Shinee's album had remakes & don't forget SNSD they did a remake of "Hey Micky".
The real question is has SM lost it's originality?
What happened to SM?

SM is becoming a BIG disappointment.

Point is if they did rip it off w/o consent or buying the copyright it's wrong. We shouldn't keep quiet just because it's DBSK & it's better to settle this now before it becomes a big thing. Every little thing nowadays can be used to sue others if they didn't do it w/o buying the rights.

... so only the :give it away part was ripped? ok..

pssh i thought it was already established that the sm production team, or then guys that make songs, whatver, are all freaking idiots.

thank god the whole song isnt all copied... like geez lsm, fire them already.

yeh i love red hot chilli peppers too, aish.
btw otijen, i believe that under my skin was not a remake, sm purchased the copy rights at the same time as the other singer.

being a fan of Red Hot and DBSK, i think this song "Give it away now" is very very poppular one of them.In Thailand, this song was played often in many pubs for a while. So i think before release this song, there should be someone in SM have heard RHCP's song before. Although it is just small part and being big like DBSK, should they do this ?

But if they dont know anything, now they know and should do something.

The point isn't if they got consent or not... by now they should try
to get their OWN things out.. not take bits and parts of many songs and compile them..
it lack originality and thats what makes me mad.. those boys are working their asses off
for something that the producers didn't even bother fully "produce"...maybe these boys should
just start writting their own stuff, since SM only cares about the quick bucks...

"just a small part"?? thats the essence of that song from Red Hot Chilli Peppers!
whatever, i'm very disappointed that SM keeps doing this.

some ppl are missing the point if the song or that part of the song was ripped off w/o the consent of the other party then it's wrong.
Doesn't matter if it's just that small part in DBSK's song because that part is a BIG part of RHCP since their song is titled "Give it Away".

If it was done w/o consent of the other party then it was wrong & it's a rip off, & it's not "fine"..

I guess my first comment was misunderstood by people, oh well, my bad. I was in rush typing the comment ,didn't expect that people would take it as a negative opinion.

^
^

SM has become lazy since long time ago, we just realized now since there's so many. Look at their artists CD cover, use the same method; take solo photos, then PSed, combine it onto one (Ehem... CSJH THe Grace, TVXQ, Suju, SHINee, SNSD)

SM didn't start doing it (remake or ripped off) since Jang Ri Lin. they start doing it from SM Town.

If I list it:

SM Town: Snow dream, 2007 summer n winter album (not sure the one before TVXQ debuted, I just followed SMTown after TVXQ debuted)
TVXQ: Get me Some, Balloons, Magic Castle and other Christmas songs, n from their Jap single; Ride On,
CSJH The Grace: My Everything,
for both TVXQ and CSJH The Grace, I don't count their accapella though
Suju: Knock out, Happiness
SNSD: Girl's generation
Jang Ri Lin: I will, Timeless, Y...

please correct me if I'm wrong.

i'm pretty sure sm bought the song ride on from a producing team kinda like how they bought mirotic
and i hope they got permission i'm pretty sure they did or it may be a coincidence either way all the covers sm has done has had the proper things done legally right?

"Hey! Don't Bring me Down" is composed by Yoo Young Jin, So I don't think that he ripped it from RHCP maybe someone else have put in it when do the arrangement.

I realized when I heard the official song, that the part where Micky is supposed to sing "Give it a way ---" like from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, is not there anymore on the official song. They changed it. Kinda weird huh? Maybe that was one of the reasons why they delayed the release of the cd?

Yes I agree, They don't say "Give it away"... it's "Break it down now" so they did not rip off red hot chili peppers. Plus it's only illegal here in the States!
