Seo In Young accused for plagiarism after Seo Taiji and Lee Hyori

Seo In Young is another comeback artiste amongst the list of Seo Taiji and Lee Hyori being accused of plagiarism.

Lee Hyori who had her comeback on 16th July was accused of plagiarism for her album jacket and title song “U-Go-Girl” MV. [Netizens are becoming concerned over plagiarism in Hyori’s album jacket and MV] But those allegations were denied on the the part of Hyori’s company.

Being called the “Post Hyori” syndrome, Seo In Young is another artiste to be accused of plagiarism. She released her solo album “Elly is Cinderella” on 23rd July. One of her album jacket photos, featuring her with a black hat and 2 heart shapes drawn under her eyes, was said to have plagiarized one of Japanese model Coco Rocha’s pictorials. Also the ribbons-donning image and unique eyelashes in her teaser video were also said to have plagiarized the style of Japanese single Ayumi Hamazaki. Hence they had eliminated out those scenes off the full MV of Seo In Young’s title song “Cinderella”.

Seo In Young’s company had denied the allegations saying that the ribbons and eyelashes are common fashion items used by singers, ruling out any intentional plagiarism.

Also another artiste Seo Taiji, whose comeback was hailed as the “return of the king”, will be releasing his 8th album on 29th July. The first single cover off his 8th album was also said to have plagiarized Iceland band Sigur Ros‘ 1999 album ‘Agaestin Byrjun’ album cover. Both album covers have featured a picture of a fetus.

Seo Taiji’s company had revealed that, “Because the song “The First Sound” is a very important code for Seo Taiji’s comeback album, we have used the picture of the fetus for the album cover.

There has been a lot of talking about makeup, style, and concept plagiarism in the kpop scene recently. It has seemed that even the most trivial case of a use of certain concept will drive fans and netizens’ imagination wild, eventually causing a huge fuss out of the whole incident. This indeed is a form of burden and problem for singers and their companies.
